Your Spirit Team: Who Is With You and How to Work With Them
Mar 24, 2026You are not doing this alone. You have never been doing this alone.
This is one of the first things I say to every person who comes to work with me, and it is the one that consistently produces the most visible response. Not because it is surprising, exactly. But because hearing it said directly, after years of navigating a sensitivity that felt isolating and confusing and unwitnessed, lands somewhere very specific.
There is a team in Spirit that is working with you. Has been working with you, in most cases, for far longer than you have been aware of it. The grandmother who appears in your dreams in a way that feels different from other dreams. The teacher you lost years ago who still arrives in your thoughts at the moments you most need their particular kind of wisdom. The guide whose presence you have felt but never been able to name. The child or parent or friend who passed and who has not, despite what death appears to mean, stopped being present in your life.
Understanding who is on your team, and how to work with them consciously, is one of the central skills of developed mediumship. But it is also simply one of the most transformative things you can do for your life — because moving through the world knowing you are accompanied is a fundamentally different experience from moving through it alone.
Who Makes Up Your Spirit Team
Your spirit team is not a fixed group. It changes over time, as you change, as the work you are doing requires different forms of support. But most people's teams have several consistent elements.
Guides: non-physical beings whose purpose is specifically to support your development and your path. Not necessarily humans who have lived — though some have. Their presence tends to have a quality of constancy, of attentiveness, of being interested specifically in you and your growth. A guide feels different from a loved one in Spirit: less emotionally personal, more oriented toward your development as a soul.
Ancestors: the people in your lineage — blood and otherwise — who have passed and who continue to hold a connection to you and your family. Ancestor work is often the most emotionally complex and the most healing, because the same lineage that carries wounds also carries gifts. The grandmother who could not claim her gifts in her lifetime may be the most powerful presence in your team now, having found from the other side the freedom she could not access here.
Loved ones who have passed: the people who are specific to your personal story. These connections do not end at death. They shift. The love between people is a real thing, and real things do not simply stop existing because one party has left their body. The form of the relationship changes. The quality does not.
And sometimes — most often during periods of significant development — a higher-level presence that arrives with a quality of love and intelligence unlike the others. Recognised more as a quality than as a personality. Consistent, vast, and somewhat overwhelming in the early stages of contact.
How Your Team Communicates
Your team does not communicate through ambiguous feelings alone. They communicate through every available channel — through signs, through impressions, through the channel you have most open. And they are patient. Almost always more patient than you are with yourself about the slowness of your development.
The challenge is that most of the time, their communication arrives in a form you have been taught to discount. An impression that feels too subtle to trust. A thought that arrives without context and has a slightly different quality from your own thoughts. A sense of warmth or presence that you immediately explain as your imagination. A dream that felt like a visit but that you dismissed in the morning because dreams are not real.
The first step in working with your team consciously is simply acknowledging that they exist and that the communication is already happening. Not as a leap of faith, but as a working hypothesis. Treat the impressions as if they are real for a period of time, and notice what happens to the quality and frequency of communication.
What I have seen consistently: when people start treating the impressions as real rather than imagined, the communication gets clearer. Not because something changed on their team's end. Because the receiver finally stopped arguing with the signal.
Working With Your Team Consciously
Beginning to work consciously with your spirit team does not require elaborate ritual. It requires two things: intention and attention.
Intention: making a deliberate choice to engage, rather than waiting for communication to arrive spontaneously and then explaining it away. This might be as simple as saying, before you sleep: I am open. I am listening. If there is something you need me to know, I am available to receive it. The simplicity of this is not its limitation. It is its method. What changes when you say this clearly is your own receptivity, which is the primary variable.
Attention: noticing what arrives in the days after such an opening. The dreams. The songs. The signs. The way a particular thought arrives in the particular quality that is slightly different from your own thoughts — slightly too clear, slightly too specific, arriving from a direction you can't quite locate. Make a note of these. Not with elaborate analysis. Simply with recognition.
Over time, you will begin to distinguish the particular signatures of the different members of your team. Your guides will have their own quality. Your ancestors will have theirs. The loved one you lost will have theirs — and that quality will be unmistakably theirs. The individual love of a specific person, which is as distinct as a fingerprint, does not change when they leave their body. You will recognise it when you feel it. And when you do, you will understand — not as a belief but as a direct experience — that they have been there all along.
The Confidence This Builds
I want to say something about what changes when you begin to consciously work with your team, because it goes beyond the mechanics of communication.
It changes how you move through difficulty. When you know you are accompanied — not just believe it abstractly, but have felt it directly, received information you could not have generated yourself, felt the presence of someone specific who loves you — the experience of navigating challenges is fundamentally different. Not easier, necessarily. But accompanied. And accompanied is a different quality of experience from alone.
The woman who went into my reading expecting to feel her uncle and instead felt understood by something vast and constant — she described it afterwards as feeling, for the first time in years, that she was not doing this by herself. That description comes up again and again. Not: I received remarkable information. Not: the reading was accurate. I did not feel alone. That is what shifts first, and that is what everything else is built on.
You are not alone. You have never been alone. And the team that is with you has been waiting, patiently and without judgment, for you to be ready to hear that directly.
The channel between you is not closed. It is simply unused on your end. This is the work of opening it.
